randon number generation in Alphanumeric format( A-Z,1-9)

randon number generation in Alphanumeric format( A-Z,1-9)

This is a guess:

cat /dev/random | tr -d '[^A-Z0-9]' | head

This is a start. If you want to slice off a certain number of characters I would use awk or perl instead of tr.
