release ip on hp-ux 11.23

looking for a way to release an ip address

Try the following commands:
# netstat -i
to get the lan number where your IP is configured
# ifconfig lanX 0.0.0.0
# ifconfig lanX 0.0.0.0 down
# ifconfig lanX unplumb
# netstat -i
make sure that the lanX no longer has the IP
To make the change permenint
# vi /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
Search the above file for the IP you are trying to release and place comment character ("#") on each line for the whole section EXAMPLE if your IP is 192.6.1.1:
You will see lines like this just insert the "#"
#INTERFACE_NAME[0]="lan0"
#IP_ADDRESS[0]="192.6.1.1"
#SUBNET_MASK[0]="255.255.224.0"
#BROADCAST_ADDRESS[0]=""
#INTERFACE_STATE[0]=""
#DHCP_ENABLE[0]="0"

Next time you reboot the server lan0 (in this example) will not be configured
