Ether channel behavior

www.unixbabuforum.inI have an ether channel setup with 2 nic cards ( primary and backup ). It is in if-backup mode meaning they are not aggregated together. In this config the primary channel is used until it fails and then the backup channel is used until the primary comes online again.
If the port the primary card is plugged into is down at boot time, what is the expected behavior of the ether channel?
In my case, the ether channel was not able to initialize so the entire system could not get on the network even though the backup card/port/switch was ok. Does anyone have experience with this? Is this normal behavior?
I am running AIX 5.3 TL 8
www.unixbabuforum.inIF you have an etherchannel defined with 1 primary 1 backup and the port
to the primary is DOWN at boot time, the entire etherchannel will FAIL
to come up on primary OR backup.

This is an AIX driver fault that is fixed in 5.3. TL 8
