Gawk Field Limit

www.unixbabuforum.inHi can anyone let me know what is the maximum number of fields on which gawk would would

www.unixbabuforum.inI looked at the Red Hat manual last week for something else, and something caught my eye like this:

"GNU awk has no inbuilt limits on record lengths, array sizes, or number of fields."

I regularly use 2 million plus array elements, and 450 fields. I broke a 2004 awk build on line length but that bug is fixed in later versions.

If you run out of fields (even in Solaris or AIX awk) you can split ($0, V, FS) and access field 567 as V[567] etc.
