How to Check If Tape is In?

www.unixbabuforum.inI am monitoring the AIX machine from another building a few blocks away.
And, I would like to know if there is anyway for me to find out if the
physical backup tape had been inserted into the AIX tape drive?

I would also like to know if I can find out any information contained on
the tape without having to restore it back to AIX.

www.unixbabuforum.in1) Use MT command : "mt -f /dev/rmtX.1 rewind" ------>This will rewind a
tape. If a tape is not in a drive it will give you an error and this will
help for next step.
2) Use TAR command: tar -tv /dev/rmtX.1 ----> t= table of contents,
v=verbose.

www.unixbabuforum.inTry this:
1) BRBACKUP -i -show -p initWPR.sap

www.unixbabuforum.inTry with mt -f /dev/rmt0 rewind
Change rmt0 to the device of your tape
tctl can be used too, and in this particular case it no differ from mt command
