Rootvg backup in aix

www.unixbabuforum.inI have three internal disks in a p570 server. Two hdds are already in rootvg which are mirrorred. Now we want to take the backup of rootvg in the third hdd and keep it aside so that we can use it in case of emergency.
I know that mirroring wouldn't help. I tried cloning but as the rootvg size (274GB) is greater than the target disk size (146GB) it also got failed. Now I don't know how to take the backup of rootvg into the third hard disk.
Kindly help me out asap.

www.unixbabuforum.inunmirror the rootvg and did cloning to the third disk and then remirrored the original disks..

www.unixbabuforum.inThe splitvg and joinvg doesn't support rootvg. He needs to do
alt_disk_install to the third disk to make bootable backup of his
rootvg.

www.unixbabuforum.inYou need to use the alt_disk_copy -i image.data

You will need to copy your image.data file and remove the mirror information. This will allow you to create a bootable copy on the third disk.

You can create the image.data file using the mkszfile command. For each LV you need to change the copies and PPs.
lv_data:
VOLUME_GROUP= rootvg
LV_SOURCE_DISK_LIST= hdisk0 hdisk1
LV_IDENTIFIER= 000061aa0000d30000000125b272ca7d.1
LOGICAL_VOLUME= hd5
VG_STAT= active/complete
TYPE= boot
MAX_LPS= 512
COPIES= 2 (Change this to 1)
LPs= 1
STALE_PPs= 0
INTER_POLICY= minimum
INTRA_POLICY= edge
MOUNT_POINT MIRROR_WRITE_CONSISTENCY= on/ACTIVE
LV_SEPARATE_PV= yes
PERMISSION= read/write
LV_STATE= closed/syncd
WRITE_VERIFY= off
PP_SIZE= 256
SCHED_POLICY= parallel
PP= 2 (change this to 1)

www.unixbabuforum.inWell, if you want to be really safe, add the 3rd disk and make a 3 mirrored
disk
copy of rootvg. Done properly, 2 disks can fail and the system will continue
running.
Cloning would fail as you need the equivalent capacity so 3 mirrored copies
is your
best bet. mksysb should be to tape or DVD if your DVD is write capable.
Also, you
need DVD-RAM media to write to.

www.unixbabuforum.inU can exclude some filesystems which are not needed by making entry into
/etc/exclude.rootvg,
Also in /image.data check the shrink paramater and remove the mirror info
from that file.
