SMSing in AIX

www.unixbabuforum.inI want to sent a SMS (short messaging service) alert in AIX when ever a apache

web server is up or down.
I am able to send s Email message but i want to send a SMS to mobile phones

www.unixbabuforum.inThere are three things you have to know: 1.) the number 2.) provider 3.)
how to send an email through the cell phone provider

example: mailx -s "your message" email@removed < file
containing the message you want to send

There are a few variations of this. Others might want to add their two
cents.

www.unixbabuforum.inusing email on the AIX side. The cell phone
service provider has to have an email-to-SMS feature. Some providers
will truncate the email at 146 characters, some will break it into
multiple messages, so experiment with each cell provider and adjust the
size of your outbound text accordingly. The user also has to have a
service plan on his/her phone that accepts SMS messages. Then usually
all you have to do is specify email@removed .
email@removed

Usually if you have your email system set up to relay email from AIX to
outside internet addresses, this will work with SMS messages on cell
phones.

A word of advice: be careful not to swamp your users with spurious or
numerous messages. Make sure that this is working correctly on YOUR
cell phone before adding others.
