[HACMP 5.5.0.4] Note concerning SP4 in PowerHA, Persistent IP addresses and routes

www.unixbabuforum.inJust an FYI on an issue recently encountered concerning HACMP 5.5.0.4. If the HACMP software is currently at 5.5.0.4 then an any connection to the Persistent IP address may be lost while performing either resource group move or a manual failover of cluster services to another node.

www.unixbabuforum.inhis problem only occurs when connection to Persistent IP addresses from a domain other than that for which the cluster resides on.

So, if cluster is in Domain B and the workstation the cluster is managed from is in Domain A, and you are connected to the Persistent IP to manage the cluster while running HACMP 5.5.0.4, then connections to the Persistent IP will be lost on nodes that a resource group is moved from or that have their cluster services brought offline.

This fix addresses the issue: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs 07&con text=SG11P&dcÛ550&dcÛ510&q1=IZ63771&uid=isg1IZ63 77 1&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=all

We have had to update various components to HACMP 5.5.0.5 to verify the bug gets fixed. This breaks other components when all of HACMP is not updated to 5.5.0.5 completely while fixing the routing issue, so install all of of HACMP 5.5.0.5 to get past that.

Symptoms of this issue include:
- netstat -rn (on node losing RG or having cluster services shutdown) will show the gateway flags change from the "UGS" to just "U"
- Connection to Persistent IP disconnects on a node, when connecting from another domain, while moving a resource group to another node
- Connection to all Persistent IP addresses for all nodes in the cluster are not reachable from another domain when cluster services are brought offline
- Connections (via ssh, telnet, etc...) to the affected cluster node from within the domain are still possible, and do not disconnect.

Fix:
- Upgrade to HACMP 5.5.0.5
- Or, apply only the needed packages to get the issue only fixed (will break cldisp which means you won't be able to view topology for cluster from command line or from smitty)
geninstall -I "a -cgNqwXY -J" -Z -d . -f File 2>&1

File:
S:cluster.es.client.clcomd 5.5.0.4
S:cluster.es.client.lib 5.5.0.4
S:cluster.es.client.rte 5.5.0.4
S:cluster.es.client.utils 5.5.0.4
S:cluster.es.cspoc.cmds 5.5.0.5
S:cluster.es.cspoc.rte 5.5.0.4
S:cluster.es.server.diag 5.5.0.4
S:cluster.es.server.events 5.5.0.5
S:cluster.es.server.rte 5.5.0.5
S:cluster.es.server.utils 5.5.0.5

Note:
- applying efix IZ63771.epkg.Z alone will not fix the issue due to inter-dependencies between components.
